Canada’s First GMP-Focused CGT
Upskilling Program:
2025-2026 Achievements
Over 2025 and the first quarter of 2026, the landmark Biomanufacturing for Advanced Therapies Training Program, delivered by CATTI and OBIO® and funded by Upskill Canada and the Government of Canada, certified 286 GMP-ready graduates and placed measurable talent directly into Canada’s cell and gene therapy sector.
Training That Happens in the Lab, Not the Classroom
Facility-based bootcamps and hands-on cell culture work: the actual training environments and microscopy outputs our graduates experienced.

Measurable Outcomes for the CGT Ecosystem
Our hybrid approach, combining rigorous online GMP foundations with intensive, hands-on facility bootcamps, yielded definitive, verifiable outcomes for all 286 upskilled participants. Every cohort member completed formal assessments and received an individualized certificate.
Confirmed in GMP, QC, and aseptic processing roles as of March 31, 2026.(Active placement window ongoing.)
Graduates continued into specialized research programs and industry, retaining high-calibre talent within Canada’s CGT pipeline and reinforcing the academic–industry continuum.
Five Core Training Streams
Each stream addressed a documented skills gap in Canada’s advanced therapy manufacturing workforce, developed through direct collaboration with CGT employers. All participants completed mandatory GMP foundation modules before their chosen stream.
Aseptic Techniques & Cell Culture
Cleanroom behaviour, contamination control, and GMP-compliant cell culture handling. Assessed by certified GMP trainers at CATTI facilities.
Quality Control – Microbiology
Environmental monitoring, microbiological testing protocols, deviation documentation, and GMP release criteria for advanced therapy products.
Closed Systems Manufacturing, CAR-T & Immunotherapies
Closed-system bioreactor operation, CAR-T cell manufacturing workflow, and process transfer documentation standards.
Quality Control – Analytics
Analytical method validation, in-process testing frameworks, and quality-by-design principles applied to CGT product characterization.
Key Industry Knowledge for Advanced Therapies Manufacturing
GMP regulatory frameworks (Health Canada, FDA), QA principles, IP & licensing fundamentals, and professional transition skills.
Mandatory Foundation Modules
All cohort members completed Introduction to the Advanced Therapies Industry and Advanced Therapies GMP Onboarding, establishing a shared technical baseline before any stream.
What CATTI-Certified Professionals Say
“The CATTI training in Aseptic Techniques & Cell Culture was a career game-changer. Coming from regenerative medicine, I needed hands-on, GMP-compliant experience to transition into biomanufacturing. This program delivered through practical lab work and industry theory. I gained the technical confidence to meet the high standards of advanced therapy environments, specifically in cleanroom behaviour, contamination control, and aseptic cell culture handling. These skills are exactly what employers in this sector are looking for.”
“My heartfelt thanks to Crystal Bourne, Domhnall McGowan, and Lauren St Hilaire for their exceptional guidance during the Quality Control and Microbiology training. The in-depth knowledge and hands-on insights gained during this bootcamp were truly invaluable. I am excited to apply these lessons to my work in biomanufacturing and cell and gene therapies. Your expertise and dedication made this experience incredibly impactful.”

Phase-contrast microscopy images from CATTI’s training facilities. Trainees assess cell morphology, culture health, and viability as part of aseptic technique competency evaluation. Imaging performed on the Rebel™ Inverted Microscope; cell counting and viability conducted using the ChemoMetec NC-200 cell counter.
